Lesson plan template with timed activities

Plan a full lesson on a single page. The template starts with what learners will be able to do, then sets out a 60-minute sequence in a table where every activity is matched to the evidence of learning you expect to see. Materials, adaptations and reflection are included.

When to use it

Prepare one for any taught session: a school class, a workshop, a tutoring hour or a training day. You read it while teaching, so it has to work at a glance. A substitute teacher, a mentor or an observer may read it too, and should be able to run the lesson from it.

What is inside

  • A header with fill-in fields for lesson topic, teacher and date, plus group level and duration.
  • A lesson sequence table with time, activity and evidence of learning, from opening question to exit ticket.
  • Learning objectives, a materials and preparation checklist, adaptations for different learners and a reflection section.

Tips for a better document

  • Begin every objective with a verb you can observe, such as explain, apply or compare. Then check that one row of the sequence table assesses it.
  • Add up the minutes in the time column before you print. Fill in the reflection the same day, because that is what improves the next version of the lesson.
