Notion to PDF: turn a Notion Markdown export into a finished PDF
Notion can export any page as Markdown. MDPress takes that file and gives it proper document typography, a choice of page sizes, and an optional cover and contents page. Your headings, bulleted lists, to-do items, tables and code blocks come through as written in Notion.
Open the converterConvert a Notion page to PDF in three steps
- 01
Export the page from Notion
Open the page, click the three dots menu at the top right and choose Export. Set the export format to Markdown and CSV, then press Export. Notion downloads a zip file.
- 02
Unzip and upload the .md file
Unzip the download. Inside is a .md file named after the page, followed by a long id. Use the upload button in MDPress to open that file, or paste its text into the editor.
- 03
Tidy, style and download
Fix anything that looks off in the editor while the preview updates. Choose a style and page size, switch on a cover or contents page if you want them, and download.

Why go from Notion through Markdown
More say over the layout
Notion’s built-in PDF export gives you few layout choices. Going through Markdown lets you pick from three document styles, set margins and paper size, and add a numbered footer.
Edit before you publish
The export lands in an editor, not a fixed converter. Remove internal comments, rename a heading or reorder sections, and the preview shows the new pages at once. The page in Notion is left untouched.
Made for sharing outside the workspace
Clients and reviewers without a Notion seat get a normal PDF with selectable text and no watermark. Add a cover with your title, author and date so the handover reads as a document, not a screenshot.
Tips for Notion exports
- Images in a Notion export sit in a folder next to the .md file and are referenced by relative path, which MDPress cannot read. Upload each one with the Images tool.
- Raw HTML is shown as text, not rendered. If your export has tag lines around a callout, delete them, or rewrite the block as a block quote.
- Databases export as separate CSV files, which are not converted. Simple tables on the page come through as Markdown tables. The whole document must stay under 4 MB.
Notion to PDF questions
- Why not use Notion’s own PDF export?
- You can, and for a quick copy it is fine. Use the Markdown route when you want a specific document style, a cover page, a contents page with page numbers, A5 or US Letter paper, or a chance to edit the text first.
- Do I need to connect my Notion account?
- No. There is no integration and no login to Notion. You export the page yourself and upload the file, so MDPress only sees the one document you hand it. You do not need an MDPress account for four PDFs a day.
- Can I convert subpages or a whole workspace?
- Not in one go. Notion can include subpages in an export, and each becomes its own .md file in the zip. MDPress converts one file at a time, so upload them separately or paste them into one document.
